  1. If you had to describe yourself using three words, it would be: funny, romantic, and adventurous.
  2. What are you currently working on? I am writing another YA novel about an 18-year-old girl that is genetically connected to a female coyote.   Sweet, fast paced, and as always a love story.

Chapter 1

Deep within a hellish cavern, six towering beings merged from the depths of its heated core and gathered at the opening. They were beautiful creatures with physically striking features and the physiques of warriors, clothed to resemble the upper crust of the society they would soon infiltrate. Their eyes glowed with a fierce ember red against the backdrop of a darkening sky.

“It’s time we avenge our brother and bring this Council to its knees,” one of them hissed.

“Your arrogance will be the death of you, just like our brother, Luceph!” another answered with a sinister laugh.

“Levia, as the Master has told us, we must stop the boy first! Then we will have our revenge.” That line of reasoning was offered by one of the beings sitting on the ledge of a boulder at the entrance to the cavern.

“Modeus, you think you’re better than us?” Levia snapped at him.

In a calm and compelling tone, he answered, “It’s not that I’m better than you. We have a mission to see out.” He stood atop the boulder, looking down at the rest of them. “This child, who is now of age, has been delivered to abolish each one of us . . . and our Master. The first thing we must do is—”

“Kill him!” one of them interrupted.

Shooting him a deathly stare, he snapped back, “To befriend him!”

“You know he is trained to see who we really are,” Levia answered with a snarl.

“Yes, but we must only look at his friends and pick one who wants something only we can offer. Once we have chosen someone to betray him, then we will have our revenge.”

“And what can we offer this friend?”

“We simply give something back that’s been taken from them.” Modeus smiled.

“And I know the perfect person. I’ll handle it,” Levia replied. And before any of the others could respond, Levia vanished, leaving a brush of wind behind.

“He’ll be the next to die!” Modeus rolled his eyes.

Levia gathered two of his followers and descended on a small town nestled beside a tranquil lake in the Ozark Mountains, a town the six demons feared. Within this town rested the final graves that were intended for the six demons—and one grave that already held their brother.

“How appropriate that the Council chose this town for their savior to live,” one of Levia’s followers replied.

“We’ll have to pay Luceph a respectful visit before we leave,” Levia replied as the three of them walked unnoticed onto the grounds of the local high school. Invisible to the average eye, they wove their way through the busy halls of students and teachers, searching for the very person Levia wanted the most.

At the head of the pack, he held out a hand to stop his followers. “There!” He smiled and pointed to a student.

“That student doesn’t look like anyone who could help us.”

“Oh, yes, I’m sure of it. And with the right persuasion, I can make the feeling of being robbed intensify to the point of desperation.” Levia grinned and walked toward his next victim.

At the obscene beeping of an alarm clock, Micah hit the snooze button for the last time. Who in the world made the snooze time only nine minutes? he thought. He rolled out of his tangled sheets and sat up, placing his bare feet on a cold, hardwood floor.

It was unusually bright that early in the morning. Rubbing his face and opening his eyes, he could see the dust particles in the beam of sunlight shining through the mirror he had cracked while throwing a ball against the wall two weeks ago.

As he walked into his bathroom, his brown hair was a matted mess. He reached in the shower and turned on the hot water, instantly steaming up the small bathroom.

“Man, what a crazy dream. I hope today is better than yesterday, and who in the world was that redheaded girl?” he said to himself.

“Were you talking to me?” Gran asked while walking by his room.

“No, Gran,” Micah replied. Man, these old walls are too thin, he thought.

Looking into the fogged mirror, he wiped it clear with his hand, then studied the back of his shoulder, where several small scars created a larger circular scar. He had always thought they looked like teeth marks, but as he got older, he had begun to suspect other theories of how he got them—still, he couldn’t quite recall the memory.

He thought about yesterday. It’s always awkward being the new guy on the first day of school. Not that anything embarrassing happened, thankfully; actually, most kids didn’t think much about Micah as the new kid. Being a freshman is hard, but in a small town it’s even harder if you just moved in. And for Micah, he just moved in a few weeks ago, so having time to make friends before school started wasn’t viable.

Seven Springs is a quaint, small town nestled in the northern part of the Ozark Mountains. It sits on part of a tranquil blue lake that feeds into a cold river, attracting fishermen from all over the world. Being a retirement community, much of the town shuts down after 7:00 p.m., leaving the younger generations to fend for themselves for entertainment. A few fast-food joints, a small theater, and a bowling alley are about the only venues the retired town offers. Micah hadn’t adapted yet, and being from a big city where the nightlife was more active than the day, it was going to be a challenge.

He had lived in Tennessee most of his life. As an orphan, he couldn’t recall the first six years of his life but remembered vividly the day his adopted parents drove away from the orphanage with him in the backseat, gazing back at a half-dozen kids waving goodbye.

Micah’s adopted parents, Dale and Kelly Spearman, were regular entrepreneurs in the Nashville area and were quite successful for nearly a decade before the economy took a turn for the worst, especially for small business owners. After closing their business, they joined the mission field and moved to a small town in northern Greece. Micah, who had just turned fifteen, had the decision to go with them or move in with his grandparents. School was going to be hard enough with the Advanced Placement classes he had planned on taking, but starting over in a new country was out of the question. He decided it would be too much of a culture shock, especially since he was a little shy.

Being a natural at lacrosse, he was excited to play for Seven Springs High School, a three-time state champion in lacrosse, and with the lack of money in his family, lacrosse could easily pay his way to college. A dream of his was to play for a division-1 school. So with mixed emotions, he decided to stay in the States and pursue his dream of playing lacrosse in college.

Making his way into the dated kitchen, he said to Paw, “I wonder how Mom and Dad are doing moving into their new place.” Paw, Dale’s father, was a local preacher, a sturdy old man who was set in his ways but loved to spend time with teenagers and seemed to understand them.

“I’m sure they are getting along just fine. Dale has a unique way of recruiting help,” Paw replied.

“Don’t say it like he cons people into doing things, Duke,” Gran replied in a sweetly protective tone. Both Paw and Micah smiled at each other. “So what is on your agenda today after school?” Gran asked.

“I have workouts with the freshman team till four thirty, and maybe just hang out afterward,” he said with a mouthful of toast.

“Okay, just let us know where you are going to be,” Gran said.

“You better get a move on if you’re gonna be on time,” Paw said while picking up his paper.

“Oh, crap! I mean . . . well, you know.” Micah fumbled while grabbing his backpack. “I got to go. See ya.”

The high school was only a few blocks away, and Micah wondered if riding a bike would look too geeky. Other thoughts ran though his head about how hot it was, the need for a car soon, and lacrosse practice, but mostly the redheaded girl who smiled at him during lunch. He wondered who she was. There was something unique about her; it was almost like he knew her from somewhere.

A couple of guys strolled out on the sidewalk in front of him. One turned around and gave him a head nod. “What’s up?”

“Hey,” Micah greeted him back. They walked separately the rest of the way but once they got to the school property, the same guy asked Micah where he was from.

“Nashville,” he replied.

“Cool. Why did you move here?”

“My parents moved to Greece,” Micah said.

The boy stopped walking. “Hey, you’re the new lacrosse player we heard about!”

“I guess so,” Micah said with a shrug.

“I’m Tyler, and this is Jake; we play on the JV team. You ready for practice today?”

Jake was a stocky kid and bigger than most of the freshman boys Micah had seen yesterday. Tyler was tall and skinny with jet-black hair. Both boys were wearing athletic shorts with flip-flops. “Yeah, think so. Are there many guys on the team?” Micah asked.

“Maybe twenty; everyone will make the JV team but varsity cuts about half of the guys who try out. Our coach is pretty cool; sometimes he can be a jerk, but he’s cool,” Tyler replied, walking through the open back doors to the school.

“What do you have first period?” Jake asked Micah.

Micah reached in his back pocket for his class schedule. “World history with—”

“You have Mrs. Hedding; she’s senile.” Tyler laughed from inside the hallway.

“Find us at lunch. We sit near the back door in the cafeteria,” Jake said, walking to his class.

“Okay.” Thank you, God—normal guys.

Micah walked into Mrs. Hedding’s class looking for a chair, while thinking about what Tyler said about her.

“Jimmy, have a seat,” she said, glancing over her glasses at Micah.

Jimmy? A few students laughed as they overheard. News travels fast in a small town, and everyone knew Micah was the new transfer. They also all knew that Mrs. Hedding wasn’t good with names.

He sat down in front of the same blonde girl he had sat in front of yesterday and pulled his notebook out of his bag.

“Hi,” the blonde girl said.

“Hi.”

“Where did you move from?” she asked.

“Nashville.”
“Cool! What’s it like moving from a big city to our little danky town?”

“Miss Evans, please stop talking to Jimmy and get out your notebook,” Mrs. Hedding snapped. The class laughed again.

The blonde sat back in her chair and pulled out her books. “I’m Carrie,” she whispered back.

Micah overheard another girl to his left. “She’s trying to bag another guy. Can she have ‘I’m easy’ written any bigger on her forehead?” A few girls sitting nearby laughed. Micah didn’t hear a response or acknowledgment from Carrie on the comment and figured she didn’t hear them.

She seems nice, Micah thought.

Chapter 2: Part II
* * * Symone * * *

Nile hugged me closer. “It’s okay. I will detonate anyone who comes through the door. I have my Sonar grenade on command. Have your laser gun ready, just in case.”

I tensed. “I fear they will stumble across us soon.”

“We just have to hold on a little while longer.”

“Has Kadeem or anyone contacted you through your mind?”

“Not yet.”

After what seemed like hours, but according to Nile’s time band was less than one, he finally said, “Kadeem, Bryan, and Kumar are here searching for us.”

“Hail, Sonar.”

My nerves were fried. Nile had held my fears at bay. He’d whispered about the first encounter of the Surpass and how the eclipse of the five moons caused total nebulas. No wonder he held a degree in astrophysics. I understood the gist of it. The gravitational pull of the phenomenon affected ours planet’s power. How it happened and why the eclipse lasted so long were over my head.

“I just told Kadeem our whereabouts.”

“It’s so great you guys can communicate through your minds.”

Even though it was extremely dim, Kadeem’s teleportation power released a golden radiant glow as they materialized in front of us. There was no time for celebration; the electrical door came off the hinges. Four intruders piled in. Nile launched his grenade. It made a deafening bang. Bryan lit up another Polar that the blast missed with the palm of his hand. Others came to their aid, letting loose rounds of laser beams. Outnumbered, I feared that we weren’t going to make it.

Jeannie Moon Graphic Q&A

Excerpt

WwHBQ3

Clad in an expensive dark gray suit with a lighter gray shirt open at the collar, Gavin tugged at his cuffs before flashing a devastating grin. Confident and sexy, without the cocky edge, there was a collective gasp as every ovary in the place exploded.

Ally’s sure did. Every emotion, every desire attached to Gavin flashed and burned. She ached watching him walk to the front of the stage, stopping and motioning for the crowd to bring it when it was time for the bidding.

“Gavin is an emergency physician in Bozeman, but he grew up right here on his parents’ ranch. An expert horseman, he was the tight end…”

WwHBQ1Squeals of delight came up from the crowd. “I’LL BET HE HAS A TIGHT END!” someone shouted.

Coach waved his hand. “Keep it clean, ladies. He’s up for pretty much anything on his date with the winning bidder as long as it’s legal. So that leaves lots of possibilities. I’d like to start the bidding at five hundred dollars.”

Mandy’s hand shot up before Coach could take a breath. “Thank you for starting us off, Mandy.”

Gavin looked stricken at the bid.

“Six do I hear… there we have six hundred? Seven hundred? Eight hundred.” The bids were creeping up, but no one had blown away the field like with the other bachelors.

“Twenty-five hundred dollars!” came a voice from the end of the bar.
Craning her neck, Ally wasn’t really surprised when she got a look at the bidder. There was Jenny, her finger sliding up and down the stem of a wine glass. Cool, casual, arrogant, as always, Gavin’s eyes went wide, and for the first time since he came on stage, he looked in Ally’s direction. Did he want her to bid?

Winning Gavin in the auction had been her plan, that hadn’t changed. But there was no WwHBQ2denying she would get some perverse pleasure out of winning a bidding war with the woman who’d messed up their relationship. Time for her to jump in. The town was always looking for something to talk about.

“Five thousand.” Ally raised her hand slowly, and Gavin’s expression stilled.

“Well, thank you, young lady. We have a bid of five thousand dollars. Do I hear five thousand five hundred?”

“Ten thousand,” came Jenny’s response.

Ooohs and ahhs rose from the crowd.

Landry gets her first boyfriend (her crush, Vladi Yagudin), but the relationship starts to go south just as things come to a head with her friends. She feels lost and left out, but finds good advice about dealing with frenemies from what she considers an unlikely source. Landry faces having to speak up for what’s right, tell the truth (even when it hurts), and how to get past the fear of failure as she gets another shot at competing in the American Ingénue modeling competition. Will Landry get a second chance with her friends, fame, and Vladi?

“I don’t know,” said Trudy, as if she’d been reading Anne’s mind. “I think it’s good to push yourself past your fear, to try new things.”

“I push myself,” said Anne. “I just do it in my artistic life where every painting is an adventure. I live on the edge of a creative cliff.”

“I suppose that’s how you explain your artwork,” said Trudy, rolling her eyes.

They were served bubbly sunny-side- up eggs with toast and ate as they watched a couple kissing over their coffee cups, darting tongues.

“Disgusting,” said Trudy. “Maybe they should get a room.”

“They already have one and I think it’s right next to mine,” said Anne. “Trust me, it was an interesting night. No wonder I need a massage.”

“Maybe you just need to get laid,” said Trudy, grinning lewdly.

“Shut up,” said Anne.

“You’re a fine one to talk, Trudy,” said Denise. “Did you ever consider that your adventures are just misplaced sexuality?”

“Don’t hit me with your psycho-babble, Ms. Therapist. I have to do something! Besides, I haven’t lost my sexuality. I know exactly where it is. It’s been on a vacation since Mr. Not-so- wonderful left.”

“Maybe he couldn’t keep up with you,” said Anne.

“I need a guy who handles me; that’s all. I just haven’t met him yet,” said Trudy.

From the doorway, Carlos motioned that the zip-line taxi was there. As they said goodbye, Trudy unexpectedly turned and gave Anne a brief hug, saying, “Are you sure? I’ll miss you, Babes.”

“No, you go and have fun.”

Trudy waved, and Denise blew her a kiss as they sailed out the door.

Sacrificial Blood by Lynn Mullican

A Horror Short Story

Sacrificial Blood Amazon ca

Excerpt:

Seemingly more alert, Don looked around. His chest tightened.

“What’s wrong, Don?”

Eyes wide, he asked, “Why are we the only ones in the museum? Have you noticed that? I haven’t seen anybody else.”

Silence.

Goosebumps broke out on Catherine’s skin. “When we started through the museum the cashier disappeared, too,” she said.

He glanced back at the mannequin. Chills ran up his spine. It was time to go. Then, something caught his attention. He froze.

He stared at the mirror next to the mannequin’s face. It had a smoky substance on it. The smoke dissipated. He swallowed hard.

It wasn’t smoke…the mannequin was breathing.

An eerie whisper escaped its lips. “Blood…I need your blood.” its lips, “I’m coming for you mommy… I’m coooommming for you…” its lips, “I’m coming for you mommy… I’m coooommming for you…”

A door slammed shut. He spun around. Their only exit was the basement door. It was closed. He turned to grab his wife. She was nowhere to be seen.

The wooden floor creaked behind him. Something moved.

Where the hell was Catherine? The floor creaked again. It was subtle. He was afraid to turn around.

It was not his wife’s footsteps. It could only be the mannequin. Then, it touched him.

The hand tightened on his shoulder. He cringed. The hand was cold. The mannequin’s fingers should have been rigid, not limber and soft. Was his wife behind him?

Hesitantly, he turned his head. The mannequin stood before him. Half of her face was broken away. The eyeballs stared at him. A bloody mass of muscle and tissue under human skin was openly revealed on the left side of missing plastic. He screamed.

The other hand reached for him. It was plastic, but it moved more human-like, which scared him even more. He recoiled.

In his haste to get away, he slammed into the wooden wall behind him. The wall shifted. Several pieces of décor and artifacts rained down upon them.

The Awakening by Lynn Mullican

A Horror Short Story

The AwakeningExcerpt:

Since I couldn’t sleep anyway, I sat up. The hallway light shone through the bottom crack of my door. The shadow of Phillip’s feet stood there. My heart skipped a beat. He never came to my door after drinking. Usually, he would sneak into his room. So, something had to be wrong.

As I threw the covers aside, he walked away. Quickly, I dressed and headed for the door. I inched it open. The hallway light went out. The light switch was around the corner, so Phillip had to be standing there.

“Phillip?” I whispered.

No answer.

I proceeded down the hallway. The tile was cold. I stopped and glanced down the curved hallway. The entryway was bare. His room was on the other side of the house, so he couldn’t have disappeared that quickly. He must have walked into the living room.

I walked through the hallway, past the partition wall, and into the living room. The carpet was warm and plush. Again, my husband left the blinds open. Damn him. The moonlight lit up the room.

As I walked over to the front window, I shook my head. I reached behind the couch and grabbed the rod. Something shifted behind me.

“Phillip?”

He didn’t answer. Something moved.

I froze. My eyes drifted to his bedroom door. It was closed. Darkness enveloped the room. Phillip was not home.

My heart raced. Slowly, I turned around. Somebody hunkered down by the partition wall. Phillip? Something about the figure was not right. It was much smaller than my son. And, the eyes appeared much larger. It was not Phillip. My hair stood on end.

The head moved. The reflection of the moonlight shimmered in its dark oval eyes. I couldn’t move. It took a step toward me, emerging into the moonlight. It wasn’t human. Instead, it was an alien.

I gasped. My jaw dropped.

It stood about four feet, its skin leathery looking. Its lips peeled back, revealing rows of sharp tiny teeth. A long slender tongue snaked out of its mouth.

I bolted. The moment my feet hit the tile, it slammed me into the wall, pinning me against it. Its jaws snapped at me.

I struggled to push it away, but my hands slid off of its oily skin. Its clawed human-like fingers raked across my stomach. I screamed. Blood oozed from the open wound. Razor sharp teeth scraped against my forearm.

“No! Help!” I struggled to push it away.

It snapped at me again. I turned my head, barely avoiding its mouth. It lashed out again, its claws cutting deeper into my arms. Its teeth gnashed together. Then, my gaze fell on my son’s karate spear that stood in the corner by the front door. He kept it there as a reminder to not forget it.

I wedged my knee up in between us and kicked out. The alien fell back. I lunged for the spear. Grabbing it, I spun around. The alien attacked again. I jabbed the spear at it once, twice—then as it neared me, I thrust it. The spear slid down its body, catching the side of it. It shrieked.

Then, its dark eyes met mine. It hissed. Then, it rushed me.

I turned with my back toward the bedroom, keeping the spear tight against my hip. The second it followed me around the corner, I thrust the spear, impaling it.

It flailed about on the tip of the spear. Blood spewed from the gaping wound. Its childlike cries filled the house.

“Oh God…,” I cried.

Its clawed hands gripped the spear. Twisting it, the alien pulled on it, working it out of its stomach.

What the hell? Although its small frame appeared limp and frail, it was much stronger than an adult human male. A low and menacing growl escaped its lips.

Excerpt:

Laughter came from the stage.

The members of the band were breaking down their equipment and talking with fans. A group of women surrounded the keyboardist. One of them wore a tiara and a “Finally 21!” sash over a form-fitting, pink minidress. He draped an arm around her and posed for pictures. The redhead practically swooned. Who could blame her? Six years ago, at that age, she would have done the same. His wide shoulders were made for holding onto, and the way he filled out those jeans screamed hot body. Not to mention that orgasm-inducing grin. He turned up the wattage on said grin and chatted with his admirers. At least a ten-year age difference existed between him and the birthday girl. The way he flirted with her and her friends, maybe he preferred to date younger.

His eyes locked on Lauren. Even from a distance, she could see his gaze roaming over her from head to toe and back up again. He smiled and her short, white dress grew as warm as a parka. Caught staring, could she look more pathetic?

Steps from the exit, a drunken guy staggered into her path. An abrupt halt left her teetering in her stilettos. A strong, masculine arm wrapped around her waist. Lauren’s heart jumped.

“Careful.” His breath ruffled the hair near her cheek. “I’ve got you.”

People squeezed by to get to the door. She didn’t budge. The keyboardist’s clean, woodsy scent surrounded her as she leaned against hard chest muscle.

“Time to move. We’re about to get trampled.” He rested his hand on her back. Confidence and his long stride sliced through the crowd. They walked out and moved to the side of the door.

Too much space allowed cool night air to steal his warmth. Exhaust fumes from departing cars snatched away his appealing scent.

More people piled out of the club.

He turned his back to the door. Lights near the awning illuminated the clean-shaven lines of his face. “I’m Reid, by the way.”

Intense hazel eyes robbed her of speech. Her, lost for words? That never happened. “I’m Lauren.”

“Nice to meet you, Lauren. So, are you coming to the after-party?”

Across the parking lot, Ari begged and stamped her feet. Inches shorter than Celine, she resembled a child throwing a tantrum.

“My friend Celine is tired. She wants to go home.”

Reid stepped into her space. Close enough for warmth and deliciousness to return and kick up her heart rate. “What do you want?”

 To stay out of trouble.

After three failed relationships in five months, she was taking a break from men, dating, the whole shebang. “It isn’t about what I want.”

“It should be.”

“When we’re out together, if one of us doesn’t want to do something, we all take a pass.”

He flattened her hand to his chest. “You’re breaking my heart. I can’t believe fate brought you to me tonight just to take you away.”

REVIEW: Though I’m sure Reid’s Deliverance can be read as a stand-alone for many, it was not a good idea for me. I was confused after Reid phased and when he was talking about Dalir as the “ancient one” that could see the future. There were also allusions to past events that I couldn’t quite get a handle on. That was until I looked on Goodreads and found a very comprehensive review of Thanes Redemption. Then everything came together and made sense. This made the read much more enjoyable. I liked how the characters were well developed and how Lauren’s daddy issues caused real issues concerning how she felt about men in general. I liked how Reid never gives up, even when he initially lets his feelings of insecurity get the best of him.

I liked how the characters were well developed and how Laurens Daddy issues caused real issues concerning how she felt about men in general. I liked how Reid never gives up, even when he initially lets his feelings of insecurity get the best of him.

I wasn’t a fan of Lauren’s wishy-washiness. I felt her ideas of what to look for in a man were unattainable and that she was prejudiced against someone that defends our country, even though I understood her reasons behind her actions. I thought she would have been more believable if she had a little more conflict about Reid instead of just going with her lustful feelings. I also felt like the ending was a bit rushed.

This book was a quick read and had a few steamy episodes and would be a good read for those that enjoy Paranormal/Contemporary Romance with a little Sci-Fi thrown in.
