Shadowed Instincts by Wendi Wilson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Thanks to the author Wendi Wilson for an advanced review copy of this book.
I enjoyed following up with Melanie and Jeremy in their anticipation of Melanie’s first shift. I love Darren. I look forward to future installments with him as the Alpha of his compound.
The dialogue was better in this book, but it still had a lot of eye-rolling moments. There were a couple of incidents when Jeremy and Melinda switched POV abruptly, and I didn’t realize it until I re-read it. Melinda seems to be much more secure with herself but when she isn’t, it is at an odd moment and almost cringe worthy.
The sexual tension is still there but, even though it is repeatedly expressed as being a hormonal byproduct of the first shift, it isn’t overwhelming.
I loved the addition of Declan and the mystery that surrounded his touch. It kept me wondering for a bit. I did figure it out but only by thinking out of the box.
The way Melanie just sailed by the final issues was unlike the way she has dealt with most other life-changing events in her life. It was almost glossed over, whereas the almost rape was almost destructive to her psyche.
I am looking forward to seeing how much Melanie will deal with the new events that came at the end of the book. The cliffhanger is just enough to make you want to wait and see how she will deal with this. I’m more interested in how Jeremy will deal with this unexpected change of events.
